On Saturday, September 21st and Sunday, September 22nd, the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) sponsored their annual farm tour in Buncombe and surrounding counties in North Carolina. Six farms were on the tour schedule in Polk County. NCAMP’s Mediation Director, Bob Holbert, volunteered at the San Felipe Farm near Columbus, NC. The owners, Raphael and Mary Bravo, guided tour groups throughout the afternoon to five points of interest on the farm: 1) honeybees, 2) shitake mushrooms, 3) vegetable and fruit garden, 4) sheep, and 5) chickens. One of the biggest attractions were the attentive and hard-working sheep dogs: Luna and Coco. The event was well attended with one or two touring groups on the trails throughout the afternoon.
