NCAMP was one of the exhibitors at the Winter Apple School held at Blue Ridge Community College Feb 4-5 in Henderson County, NC. The event started at the Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard on Tuesday Morning. Then the meeting moved to the beautiful facilities of the BRCC’s Flatrock Campus for Tuesday afternoon and all day on Wednesday. Henderson County has held the distinction of being the 7th largest apple producing county in the United States. The Blue Ridge Apple Growers (BRAG) Association sponsored the school along with businesses, vendors, and government entities. Laura Levine, executive secretary of BRAG, was a major organizer and coordinator for this event. The local apple growers are a very progressive group with many ventures involved with value added products (cider, chips, juice, processed apples, and baked goods). There are also many orchards participating in agritourism which strengthens and solidifies these farms economically.
