NCAMP and FARM-VA Mediation Director Bob Holbert attended the Zoom Presentation on Thursday, May 16, 2025, sponsored by the Internation Farm Transition Network. Rachel Henley of the IFTN Board of Directors moderated the meeting. Renee Wiatt with Purdue University Extension Service presented on the topic: “Road Mapping Your Succession: Adding Another Family Member to Your Farm Operation.” Ms. Wiatt explained that on average it takes 6.5 years to implement a farm succession plan. She shared worksheets she uses in her practice to more effectively plan and carry out planning in farm successions. She discussed many aspects of the transition process in incremental control, written job descriptions, and basically documenting all the who, what, and when variables changing in the farming operation. Hers was a very practical and common-sense way to consider and work through succession.
