Creating and Designing a Homepage

Creating and designing an engaging and organized homepage for your courses is important to provide students with clear navigation and an inviting introduction to the course content. Here is a step-by-step process of building a course homepage in Canvas.

1. Getting Started with a New Page

Access Canvas and select the specific course you want to create a homepage for. Select Pages from the course navigation menu.

2. Building a New Page for your Homepage

To start building the homepage, you must first create a new page. This can be done by navigating to the “Pages” section within the course and clicking on the “+ Page” button located in the top right corner.

3. Creating and Designing the Content

You can begin designing the content, ensuring that it includes essential elements like the course title, a brief description and useful buttons.

4. Save and Publish your Homepage

Once the design of the homepage is complete, save and publish the page. This is done by clicking the “Save & Publish” button in the bottom-right corner of the page.

5. Select a Specific Page as your Homepage

After publishing your page, click on the three-dot icon at the top left corner and select “Use as Front Page”. Once you do that, an icon that says “Front Page” will appear beside the page you just selected as your homepage in your pages list.

Go back to the Home page on the left side of the course navigation menu. Select the Choose Homepage (1) button in the top right menu. Select Pages Front page (2) and save (3)
