Teaching Analysis Polls (TAPs)

TAPs are a mid-semester formative assessment designed to enhance your teaching. One of our educational developers will visit your class to facilitate a focus group with your students while you step out. Students share their feedback confidentially and anonymously, highlighting what’s working well and what could be reconsidered. Afterward, we schedule a consultation to help you implement student feedback effectively by drawing from evidence-based teaching practices and provide you with a detailed report.

By engaging in this process, you gain direct insight into student experiences and practical recommendations to enhance your teaching—while fostering a more collaborative and responsive learning environment.

Participating in a Teaching Analysis Poll (TAP) is a simple, three-step process designed to give you meaningful, mid-semester feedback from your students.

Step 1: Pre-TAP Conversation

Once you sign up, we’ll schedule a brief pre-TAP conversation to discuss how your class is going and confirm the details of your TAP session.

Step 2: Classroom Visit

One of our educational developers will visit your class to facilitate the TAP while you step out. The process follows three key stages:

1. Individual Feedback
Students begin by reflecting on their own learning experiences and individually responding to our prompts.

2. Small-Group Discussion
Students then form small groups to discuss and refine their responses. Each group submits a collective response, identifying common themes.

3. Whole-Class Discussion & Ranking
Groups share their top priorities for what’s working well and what could be improved. The facilitator compiles these themes live while students engage in a class-wide discussion and finally rank the most important takeaways.

Step 3: Post-TAP Consultation

During a one-on-one consultation where we will discuss the findings, you’ll receive a detailed report summarizing student feedback. We will help you explore evidence-based strategies to help you make meaningful adjustments for the rest of the semester and you will leave with a personalized action plan.

TAPs run in the middle of the semester during Fall and Spring semesters. If you teach a shortened course or you are interested in doing a TAP during the Summer semester, please reach out to us. Spots are limited and preference is giving to new instructors.
