Jo-An B. Pittard
Jo-An was known for her boundless kindness, witty sense of humor, and love of sweet treats. She had the amazing talent for giving unique and meaningful gifts as well as creating the best Christmas traditions. Above all, she lived a life dedicated to the well-being of others, often putting the needs of those around her ahead of her own, including the pets she cared for over the years.
She was born in Jacksonville, FL. Throughout her years, Jo-An called many places home, having lived along both the West and East coasts. She attended Western Carolina University and was a proud founding member of Alpha Xi Delta’s Epsilon Gamma Chapter. She spent 28 years in Augusta, GA. There, she thoroughly enjoyed being an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and working at Lynndale, Inc., where she helped adults with disabilities access employment and community resources. She embraced the beach lifestyle and a well-deserved retirement in Cherry Grove, SC. Jo-An was especially grateful for the wonderful and caring neighbors in the Tidewater Community.
Jo-An was a loving mother to her children: Jeffrey, Gregory, and Lauren. She was a supportive mother-in-law to Amanda and Sanjeev and a devoted Nana to her granddaughters, Lilah and Sylvia. She is survived by her husband, Robert and leaves behind a cherished younger brother and his wife, Don (Shirley), and her cousins, Sandra and Bobbie Jo. She cared deeply for her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews: Deanna (Zachary), Roman, Kevin (Sarah), Kjell (Nadia), Jenn, Olivia, Bodhi, Nancy (Lawton), Sarah (Ross), Becca (Ryan), Mary Catherine (Dalton), Rachel (Vince), and Maria. She adored her in-laws, Nancy, Jerry, and Dan and the in-laws who have passed before her, including Barbara, Tommy, Norma, George, and Layne. She is predeceased by her parents, Jesse and Dorothy.
Jo-An will be remembered for the nurturing presence she brought into the lives of those she touched, her unshakeable support of her family, and her ability to find joy in the simple things. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
