Bob G. Bohnhoff

Robert George Bohnhoff peacefully passed away April 1, 2025 at the age of 75 with family and friends by his side.

Bob was born on September 1,1949 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Robert Warren Bohnhoff and Eileen Rose Smith Bohnhoff. He moved with his family to Charlotte in 1958. He attended Catholic schools in Charlotte graduating from Myers Park High School in 1967 and Western Carolina University in1971.

Bob worked at Rockwell/Porter Cable in Inventory Control retiring from there. He worked an additional 8 years with AmWins retiring for good in 2017.

Bob loved and followed sports his entire life. He played football in high school but found his true love in basketball which he played in youth, high school, college, and adult recreation leagues. He was especially proud to be a member of the 1966 Myers Park High School Basketball Team that reached the finals in the NC 4A state tournament. He also loved coaching. While coaching a tee-ball team in 1977 he met Sandy who ended up being his lifelong partner and her two sons Matt and Jeff. He coached basketball at Holy Trinity Middle School in Charlotte and was an assistant coach for AAU teams that competed in national tournaments in Kansas, Florida, North Carolina, and Nevada.

He played golf from an early age anytime and anywhere he could. In 2014 a friend introduced him to a group playing at Charlotte National Golf Club, and the men he met there became very special to him. He played his last round in early December 2024.

Bob was a fountain of knowledge about sports. Ask him a question about most any topic related to football, basketball, or golf and he had the answer. While family and friends gathered with him in his final weeks, the NCAA basketball tournament was always on in the background and when a question arose Bob had the answer…even if the question wasn’t directed to him or we thought he was asleep.

After running daily for years, Bob began morning walks, often accompanied by his first dog King, later by his dog Pippen and sometimes our two cats. They made many friends along the way including one special person who always kept treats for Pippen.

Bob is survived by Sandy Andrews, a partner for 47 years. Matt (Nancy) Andrews and Jeff (Stacy) Andrews. Lottie and Laura Andrews (Colorado), Payton Andrews (Charlotte) and Taylor Andrews (Florida), his brother James Bohnhoff (Kentucky) and sister Teri DuBois, his aunt Darlene Smith (Wisconsin), as well as several cousins in Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Warren Bohnhoff and Eileen Rose Smith Bohnhoff.
