Diana S. Bagwell
She attended the first through 12th grades on the Hendersonville High School Campus. After attending Pheiffer College for two years she transferred to Western Carolina University, graduating with a degree in biology and education in 1967. She earned a master’s degree at UNC Charlotte in 1977.
Her career with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools was as a biology teacher, assistant principal, elementary school principal and middle school principal. After retirement she returned to work at CMS as Director of the Professional Development Center and then as an Assistant Superintendent. In retirement she served as adjunct professor at Furman University and the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg. She cared deeply for all the teachers and students she stewarded.
Diana felt a close connection to the First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville although she and Morris attended church at other locations over the years. She was baptized there, grew up there, married there and returned there when she could.
Diana is survived by her husband and soulmate of 58 years Morris Bagwell, her son Steven Jeffrey Bagwell and his wife Maria Brown Bagwell. She was a devoted “Nana” to her granddaughters Natalie London Bagwell and McKenzie Jean Bagwell who she loved dearly. She is also survived by a brother, Roderick Woodrow Stokes, “Waddy,” and his wife Martha Stokes, a nephew Strider Stokes and wife Shannon.
A memorial service will be held at Tryon Estates at a later date. Donations may be made to the charity of choice or to Blue Ridge Community College, AAUW Legacy of Leadership Award Fund, BRCC Educational Foundation, 180 W. Campus Dr, Flat Rock, NC28731.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pardee Hospital Cancer Center, Spartanburg Regional Hospital and the nursing care center at Tryon Estates for the loving care shown to Diana.
