John T. Dixon

John Thomas Dixon was born in Leesburg, Florida on March 12, 1945 to John and Sarah Dixon. John passed away peacefully on March 28 at 81 years of age.
Preceded in death by his parents John and Sarah and his brother Michael, John is survived by his brother Wiley, his wife of 58 years Carol, daughter Jennifer Trousdale (Dave), son Ryan Dixon (Jessica), granddaughter Lydia Trousdale, and grandsons Dalton and Asher Dixon. In addition, John is survived by brother-in-law Wiley Rickerson his nephew Morgan Rickerson and sister-in-law Donna Bradley.
John graduated from South Sumter High School in excelling in football, basketball, and baseball at SSHS, John was selected to the first team all area football team by the Ocala Star Banner in his senior year. John graduated from Florida State University and received a MA degree from Western Carolina University. John spent his career with Sumter County schools as an outstanding teacher, principal, and administrator. He was selected as Teacher of the Year for the Sumter District and had a positive impact on many young people. John was a member of Lake Panasoffkee United Methodist Church, spending many hours in his younger years maintaining the buildings and grounds. An artisan woodworker, John left many carvings for friends and family. He enjoyed many years of camping in his RV with his family and loved spending time with Carol at their North Carolina cabin.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 10am-11am with the service to begin at 11am at Lake Panasoffkee United Methodist Church. All are invited to celebrate the wonderful life of John Dixon, with lunch to follow in the Fellowship Hall. In honor of John, the family is asking for donations to Lake Panasoffkee United Methodist Church Food Ministries.
