Robert E. Taylor

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert “Doc” Taylor, age 76, who left this world on April 25, 2026. He was born on May 9, 1949, in Gaston County, son of the late James Earl Taylor and Helen Warlick Taylor. Doc dedicated his life to the service of others, notably as an educator in the Cleveland County School System, where he touched the lives of countless students and his colleagues.

Doc graduated from Western Carolina University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree, instilling a love for learning that would guide him throughout his life. After a fulfilling career in education, he retired from the Cleveland County School System, leaving behind a legacy of knowledge, compassion, and inspiration.

In his personal life, Doc found joy in the simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman, an enthusiastic golfer, and a devoted puzzle solver who cherished the serenity of walking in nature. He had a gentle spirit and a warm smile that would light up any room, making him a beloved figure among friends and family.

Doc is survived by his sons, Matthew Trent Taylor Sr. (Jennifer), Jason Ryan Taylor; grandson, Matthew Trent Taylor Jr. (Mayson); great-grandchildren, Faelynn Monroe Taylor, Brantley Jack Payne; partner, Jackie Broome; sisters, Ann Burleson, Linda Elkins (Nathan), Darlene Lynhart (Ronnie), Debbie Carpenter; stepchildren, Eric Broome, Stephanie Morehead (Bryant), Michelle Jones (Matt); numerous nieces and nephews.
