The WCU Public Relations Student Society of America chapter, PRSSA, attended the International Conference, ICON, from Friday, Oct. 13 to Monday, Oct. 16 in Nashville, Tennessee.
“Each day was an exciting opportunity to attend award and networking breakfasts, keynote speakers, and smaller group sessions with professionals in a variety of industries,” said Mary Grayson Day, WCU PRSSA president.
Over 500 students from universities across the United States, Argentina, Colombia, and Peru attended the ICON this year for PRSSA.
“Networking was the name of the game,” said Day. “Our chapter was able to attain moments of collaboration, ideas, successes, and “happenings” from members of chapters nationwide.”
One of the traditions of ICON for PRSSA is the roll call. Each university in attendance has their name called and are given the opportunity to chant or sing their fight song.
“The most notable highlight of the trip was the roll call,” said Day. “We had been anticipating this moment and it had finally arrived. WCU was last on the list of chapters, when the time finally came, eight catamounts stood up chanting the last line of our fight song. All red in the face from both nervousness and school spirit we were able to share a moment of school pride and laughter.”
PRSSA at WCU has more events planned coming up over the course of the remainder semester and is already planning for next semester.
“We have an upcoming trip to Cherokee Hospital at the end of the month,” said Day. “We hope to collaborate with a few student resources on campus for engaging events and outreach.”
