The Public Relations Student Society of America, PRSSA, chapter here at Western attended a field trip to the Cherokee Indian Hospital, Tuesday, Nov. 7 to learn about the public relations department.
“We wanted to give our members the opportunity to connect with professionals and the organizations in our surrounding area,” said Sarah Pruitt, social media and events coordinator for PRSSA.
There were eight student members that attended the trip, and they received a tour from the director of public relations, Britney Lofthouse and Dr. Richard Bunio, director of clinical services.
“They explained how the hospital works and the public relations tactics they use and the challenges they face with that,” said Pruitt.
Public relations is a field that is constantly changing and adapting to new ways every day. The group had a big takeaway from this experience.
“Public relations has many different shapes and forms and looks different everywhere,” said Pruitt. “As professionals, we must find the best ways to support our company and organization.”
PRSSA plans on offering more professional development opportunities to members in the future to network and connect with public relations professionals.
