Dr. Mindy Weathers of the communication department will receive tenure this spring at Western Carolina University.
Weathers has been a professor at WCU for two years and was a tenured Associate Professor at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
Dedication to academically recognized health communication research and student success is what Weathers believes significantly contributed to her acceptance.
Receiving tenure will allow Dr. Weathers to pursue more research projects while recognizing her past contributions.
“It allows me the freedom to explore innovative teaching and research methods and engage in deeper community involvement through my scholarly work,” said Dr. Weathers.
Weathers also wanted to thank her colleagues and all her previous and current students.
“Their support and collaboration have been invaluable, and I look forward to continuing to work with them to make a positive impact both within and outside the university,” said Weathers.
Tenure is considered based on factors including service, the research professor’s conduct and university service.
Tenure applications are typically allowed after five years of teaching.
