Title: Beauty and Mathematics in Music
Abstract: Art, music, theater…they have historically been classified far away from mathematics, logic, and science. However, the elements of music that people typically consider to be beautiful have as their foundation mathematical concepts that relate to Julia sets and dynamical systems. During this interactive talk, we will explore two of these concepts – symmetry and repetition – and how those two concepts connect music and mathematics.
