The Peacekeepers program teaches WCU students, staff, and faculty how to respond to people who have been victimized and connect them with campus and community resources.

Developed by Dr. Cyndy Caravelis, Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at WCU and certified victim advocate, Peacekeepers training is delivered in partnership with trauma-trained officers from WCU’s police department.

After Peacekeepers training, participants can decide to become certified Peacekeepers who are also trained as Campus Security Authorities (CSAs). Certified Peacekeepers receive a Peacekeepers sticker to display on their office or residence hall door or other prominent space. This signifies that you are a safe, supportive person who can connect victims with campus and community resources.

Peacekeepers participants learn…

Learn what to say — and what not to say — to someone who has been victimized.

How to connect survivors with resources

Be a bridge that connects people with on-campus and off-campus support services and resources.

What happens when law enforcement becomes involved

Learn about the police reporting and response process from WCU’s trauma-trained officers.

How campus advocacy and university protocols work

Develop your understanding of Title IX, the Clery Act, and the responsibilities of Campus Security Authorities.
