A disaster response informational meeting was held at the Henderson County Extension Office on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Jackson Park in Hendersonville, NC. The purpose of the meeting was to share information about grants, loans, cost-share programs, and all services available to farmers and landowners in response to the devasting effects of Hurricane Helene. Forms were offered to all present to use in assessing and listing all crop losses, as well as damage to land, equipment and infrastructure. The Henderson County government rented a large warehouse facility and the old Bi-Lo building to house donations and disaster relief supplies and to have government agents available in one place for the application process, respectively. Various programs have differing application deadlines from November through June of 2025. NCAMP’s Mediation Director, Bob Holbert was in attendance at the meeting to support the relief effort and to offer the services of the mediation program, especially for Credit Counseling, to our farmers and rural borrowers. Dispute resolution and farm succession planning were also discussed with farmers.
