Jack L. Galloway
Jack Lane Galloway, 79, formerly of Cullowhee, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Tennessee, on Dec. 29, 2024 after an extended struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Jack was born on Feb. 17, 1945 to the late Terry and Zephia Parker Galloway of Cullowhee. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Pamela Deitz Galloway, and brothers, Conley and Randy Galloway.
He is survived by his son, Greg Galloway, of Tuckasegee; his daughter, Tina Conley, three granddaughters, and two great-granddaughters, all of Dover, Tennessee.
Jack was a 1963 graduate of Cullowhee High School, where he returned in 1973 to teach Industrial Arts until his retirement from Cullowhee Valley School in 1995. He was Camp Lab’s Teacher of the Year in 1992. He received a Bachelors of Science in Education from WCC in 1967, began his teaching career at Bass High in Atlanta, and later completed a Master’s degree at WCU in 1976. Jack was a member of Cullowhee Baptist Church, and grew up attending Wolf Creek Baptist Church.
Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. On Nov. 18, 1984 he caught an N.C. Wildlife record-setting tiger muskie in Fontana Lake. A dedicated N.C. Lifetime Sportsman, Jack was renowned for crafting custom fishing rods, tying flies, and mentoring others in the art of fishing. He served as president of the local chapters of both the Sportsman Club and Trout Unlimited, and he supported ruffed grouse restoration and other wildlife preservation projects. Jack’s outdoorsman skills even contributed to the FBI’s efforts during the search for Eric Rudolph.
