Coulter Faculty Commons
for Excellence in Teaching & Learning
Partnering with Faculty in Excellence
The Coulter Faculty Commons (CFC) takes pride in the partnership we have with the faculty at Western Carolina University.
The CFC is located in the Hunter Library, on WCU’s main campus. We are here for full and part-time faculty/instructors, graduate assistants and staff in all areas of teaching & learning. The CFC partners with instructors to improve teaching and learning through the promotion of an established blend of pedagogy, technology to support student learning. We support success in the classroom and continuing professional development with workshops, resources and consultations. You are part of an academic community where there are continuous open discussions and support for teaching and learning activities. Teaching & Learning
We partner with instructors in all aspects of teaching. Workshop and consultation topics include course design for online, hybrid/blended, and face-to-face instructional environments, student engagement, course design, assessment strategies, syllabus and schedule construction, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning projects, Accessibility and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)/inclusive pedagogy. Consultations may also cover work-life balance and other issues related to faculty support.
Educational Technology
We help instructors develop evidence-based pedagogical approaches to using technology in a way that aligns with their course goals and outcomes, and create an active, engaged, supportive learning environment.
