Sarah Nuñez
(she/her/ella) was born in Bogota, Colombia, and raised in North Carolina.
She is a proud alumnus of Western Carolina University’s Master of Public Affairs Program (2010). She is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Counseling and Personnel Services (College Student Personnel) at the University of Louisville (UofL).
Sarah serves as the Director of Equity, Social Justice, and Community Engagement with the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine, a fast-growing online herb school with over 6,000 students.
As an Asheville, NC resident, Sarah loves building positive people power here in the South. Her research methods use testimonios and oral histories to uncover the South’s healing practices, wisdom, and knowledge of Latinx students.
Sarah is a cultural worker and healer, weaving storytelling, art, hierbas, and movement building throughout her work and organizing. She is one of the founders of Aflorar Herb Collective, which provides herbal community care and support to organizers, activists, and nurturers across the county.
She is bold and courageous and believes that … “Together we can build constructive conversations from a new perspective.” Sarah is passionate about student and family engagement and using healing, art, and organizing modalities as avenues for transformative change for students on college campuses and across the community.
Previously, Sarah has worked as Associate Director for the University of Louisville Cultural Center and Western Carolina University Office of Admissions; founded the Louisville Latino Education Outreach Project and the UofL Latinx Oral History Project. She has also published Latino Student Resource Guide, an online resource tool for Latino families across North Carolina and Kentucky.
