The Inaugural Southeastern LatinX Student Leadership Conference (SL-SLC) will be launched on April 12-14, 2019 on the campus of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Presentation Parameters

Who Should Submit a Proposal

We are calling for all Faculty, Student Affairs Professionals, State, and Local Government Employees, and all industry practitioners to submit proposals sharing thought-provoking presentations, interactive demonstrations, and engaging conversations.

Length of Presentations

All session should be designed to be 60 minutes in length with an additional 15 minutes provided for a question and answer period.

Audience

Conference participants include collegiate students from across the institutional spectrum of the southeastern United States. Presenters should consider how participants will utilize the information to advance and engage their campus.

Presentation Scope

Presentations should be interactive, engaging and relevant to the learning outcomes of this conference. If the presentation focus is more appropriate for a corporate or social agency, it will not be considered unless a clear connection to the collegiate experience is understood by the Selection Committee.

Proposal Criteria

Proposals should supplement and enhance the conference theme, Maximizing Nosotros: Empowering LatinX Students for Success, and fit into one of three tracks: Owning Our Values, Challenging Ourselves, Claiming Our Roots. The Selection Committee welcomes proposals related to any dimension of the LatinX experience, including but not limited to:

  • LatinX Role in Diversity & Inclusion

  • Identity and American Politics

  • DACA

  • LGBTQIA+ Experience

  • Afro/LatinX Experience

  • Race and Nationality

  • Multiracial Identity

  • Strategies on Engaging in Campus

  • LatinX and Sustainability

  • LatinX and American History

  • Nationality Conflicts in Organizations

Proposals may be presentations, workshops, performances, or other creative modes of promoting LatinX student development and engagement on campus. Proposals may be submitted by individuals or groups’ of students, faculty, staff and community members.

Presentation Policy

Presenters are responsible for providing all handouts. Conference proceedings will be made available to all participants after the conference. Presenters must agree to share a narrative summary of their presentations or a copy of their PowerPoint slides.
