The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne

First, Bruno knows nothing of the Final Solution and the Holocaust. Next, he is oblivious to others being cruel to him because people from his country are German. All he knows is that he is moving to an unfun place. Then, he meets Shmuel a boy who lives a strange life on the other side of the wire fence.  There are others who wear a striped uniform. They meet up everyday to talk, but some days Shumel can’t make it. Finally, Bruno gets too worried about Shumel and goes in the facility. He finally finds Shumel, and they have wonderful times together. After that, the guards escort the children to an unknown room. Then, Shumel holds Bruno’s hand. What happens next?

The Underneath by Kathi Appelt

First, an abandoned Calico cat is about to have kittens and sees a hound named Ranger near the backwaters of the bayou. Ranger wants the cat to hide under the porch while raising her kittens because Ranger knows that Gar Face will use them as alligator bait. Gar face is Ranger’s owner and is very cruel. He is so cruel because of how his father treated him when he was younger. He has a life mission to kill the alligator king. As long as the cats and Ranger stay in the underneath, they will be safe hopefully.  However, kittens are curious creatures, and if their curiosity clicks, then it sets off a chain of many other remarkable events that could change everything. Ranger and the Calico cat decide to become a family after the kittens are born to stay protected in the underneath. The other characters also helped out Ranger and the cats by helping them escape from Gar Face. The grandmother snake is only worried about her daughter Night Song. Ranger and the two kittens are trying to escape from Gar Face.
