Summary of Novel:
1984 Written By: George Orwell
In George Orwell’s 1984, Winston Smith wrestles with oppression in Oceania, a place under the ever watchful eye of the Party where human relationships are restricted and individuality is seen as corruption to be stamped out. A place where history is rewritten and seen as impermanent when it suits the ruling class’ needs. Where many are so blinded by propaganda and lies that children are more likely to turn their own parents over into the grasps of the Thought Police (a military wing of the Party who punish even the thought of rebellion) then anyone else.
In defiance of the society and with a will to live his own life, Winston dares to express his thoughts via diary, seeks out things for his own personal pleasure and benefit rather than that of the states, and even dares to pursue a dangerous relationship with his coworker, the ever rebellious Julia. Although initially at odds with each other, Winston and Julia find a common ground on which to build their trust and love of each other.they find their won place to pursue their desires with a dream of their work together eventually resulting in the end of an oppressed world living in constant fear of treachery and torment. Their relationship and free will soon draws the wrath of the Party; who cruelly stamps out anything it sees as a threat. The two must endure a trial by fire to see if their love will triumph over oppression and tyranny.
Jonathan,
You should consider pursuing a career in acting! Great use of an accent to make the words even more powerful. Very engaging speech / video. It really made my reflect upon current events.

Wow, this was very powerful. I loved some of the lines- One would never take power with the idea of relinquishing it, the object of torture is torture and the object of power is power. Really great analysis of this character’s thinking and a reflection on the times. And that voice- I’d love to hear a whole audio recording of the book in that voice. Great work! Thanks for sharing.
