”A Long Walk To Water” by Linda Sue Park is based on a true story about Salva Dut who walked all the way from Southern Sudan to America. This is because there was a war going on in Southern Sudan between the North and the South. This means Salva has to run away. On this long walk Salva finds his uncle and stays with him and his friend , but while they were walking in the desert rebels came and killed Salva ‘s uncle . Years later Salva was at a refuge camp, while in the camp he learned English and that there was a possibility that he could go to America. Later on, Salva is informed he can go to America and live with a new family in New York . When in New York Salva is informed that his father is alive and going through stomach surgery in a hospital in South Sudan . After a visit to the hospital Salva get’s an idea to help people in South Sudan get fresh water , and that is how Salva started to build wells so the children don’t have to walk far for dirty water and get more of an education .
The challenge we chose was challenge three . The problem in the story was that there was not enough sanitary water for Nya’s village also the children didn’t get much of an education. This is because they had to walk eight hours and sixteen miles in a day to reach the dirty water. The solution is one day Salva came to help the people in South Sudan. Salva came with workers to build a well that produces clean and fresh water near the village .
