The WCU Staff Senate recently passed $150,000 in gifts to their scholarship fund.
The WCU Staff Scholarship was started in August of 2007 and support dependents of WCU professional staff. Donations from WCU staff and faculty, community members, and others have consistently made this one of the most popular funds at WCU. In addition to contributions from individuals, initiatives such as the University Club Silent Auction Purple Carpet Gala and incentivized participation in the UNC System Staff Engagement Seurvey have provided tremendous support for the scholarship.
WCU Staff Senate Chair Deidre Hopkins reported the information in a recent meeting of the senate’s executive committee proclaiming, “Y’all, this is a big dang deal. Our staff know the impact of this scholarship and this is a remarkable way to make a difference as a community in the lives of our students and the families – who are our coworkers.”
Last year, the WCU Division of Advancement created a giving society specifically for faculty and staff.
The Shetland Society celebrates the employees who work hard for WCU and the University’s role to deliver goods to our student body and the greater community, the Shetland Society serves as a symbol of innovation, dedication and a driving force—traits that our Faculty and Staff exemplify through their generosity. For those of you who have NOT renewed your Shetland Society membership, please do that today and select the Staff Senate Scholarship Fund as your designation. -Division of Advanement Website
