Book Synopsis
In the story “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind”. By William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer.” William had a major problem in his village, no electricity and no water. The village was running low on food to eat because they depended on their crops and hunting for their food. But if they had no water they have no crops to eat.The village only had 2 sources of light, those are the sun and campfires.
William decided to solve his village’s problem by building a windmill. He walked to a local library to find out how to build a windmill. William spent a lot of his time collecting and finding materials to build his windmill. Many people teased and made fun of him but that did not stop him by helping his village. When William finished his windmill some continued to tease him. But a crowd gathered and were surprised of his accomplishment. His windmill worked!! So everyone was putting them in there houses.
Challenge One
I decided to make a windmill like he did with recycled materials. For example I used parts of an old fan that we found at a scrap yard. A base of an old chair and some scrap wood that we had. Mine is an mini version of the windmill he made that people can keep in rooms or anywhere. I really enjoyed this project and I hope I can do it again.
Dylan,
I really like that you decided to create a wind mill using recycled materials. Your final product is very impressive. It’s important to understand that products can be modified to make something new when they no longer serve their initial purpose!
