Staff Senate will be doing a “Meet the Senator” series this academic year, letting all staff know who their Staff Senators are. In the spotlight this week is Dana Boyer. Dana is a Business Officer in the College of Health and Human Sciences, certified Clifton Strengths Coach and adjunct instructor in the College of Business. Dana has been on Staff Senate quite some time now as this is her 8th year on Senate and her second year being the chair of the Scholarship and Professional Development Committee. When Dana was asked “Why Western?” She responded with “I just love this place!” She has had the good fortune of working with students over the past two years in addition to her role as a business officer. She says that they are so much fun and so engaging. Dana has also had the opportunity to coach faculty, staff, and students in Clifton Strengths. Dana, a Sylva native, practically grew up on Western’s campus. Learning to swim in Breeze Gym, attending lots of summer camps and Mountain Heritage Day were opportunities that played huge roles in her childhood. Dana said “I have probably explored every square inch of this camps!” Dana is also a huge supporter of Catamount Athletics and serves on the Catamount Club Board of Directors (Go Cats!). She was also lucky enough to be part of the Bob Water’s era of football and got to attend basketball games in Reid Gym. While attending school here she made some of the best friends (shoutout to Scott Hall 9th Floor!). Dana says “Western is a part of my story and I am so glad it is!” Her favorite part of her job is solving problems and making things happen. She also really enjoys the faculty and staff she gets to interact with on a daily basis. Dana also loves coaching Clifton Strengths as she gets to see the great things everyone has to offer. Some fun facts about Dana are that she loves going to concerts and she was Mrs. Paws her freshman year in 1994. We love having Dana on Staff Senate. She brings so much knowledge and energy to everything she does, and her joy is contagious!
