The SoCon Racial Equity and Justice Task Force has put together a one-week social media campaign for SoCon Unity Week next week (Jan. 25 to Jan. 29). Below is the outline of each day.

Day 1 (Monday, Jan. 25): “We are #SoConUnited”

Showcase the support for SAs, administration and faculty through storytelling/social media posts to foster inclusive environments.

Day 2 (Tuesday, Jan. 26): “Speak Up, Reflect and Learn”

Focusing on dialogue, reflection and education is an important step in showing unity and support.

Day 3 (Wednesday, Jan. 27): “The Power of your Platform” Register at shorturl.at/admY1

Showcase the power of SA/coaches/admins’ platforms to make a difference and stand up against racial inequality and injustice. On Wednesday, January 27th at 7 p.m. ET, join moderator Dr. Denise Gregory, Faculty Athletics Representative at Samford University, and panelists:

  • Alvin Scioneaux – Former Linebacker for the Wofford College ‘13 Football team. Current Mechanical Engineer for Northrop Grumman.
  • Donovan Spencer – Redshirt Sr RB, Western Carolina University FB
  • Makenzie Jones – Graduate Student XC/T&F athlete, UT-Chattanooga
  • Tori Powell –Redshirt Sr, UNC Greensboro WBB

 

Day 4 (Thursday, Jan. 28): “More than an Athlete”

Providing a platform for SAs to share their stories beyond the stats they produce on the fields and courts of play.

Day 5 (Friday, Jan. 29): “They Did, So I Can”

To end the week, the conference will be recognizing the trailblazers who paved the way for those who came after them.
