When: Thursday, September 21st from 8am-2pm
- NOTE – if riding the Campus Recreation shuttle please arrive at the CRC lobby by 8:00am.
What to Expect: Looking for a great way to use your WCU volunteer/community service leave and get outside while connecting with your fellow Catamount community? Join Campus Recreation’s Outdoor Program and the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning, while we head to Gorges State Park to do some trail maintenance.
The project will be located on the Bearwallow Valley Trail (976 Grassy Ridge Rd, Sapphire, NC 28774), and the goal would be eliminating a shortcut where visitors have been cutting trail. We are still working out some details, but some ideas have been installing a split-rail fence or a rock barrier, planting native plants, and installing signage. This would both protect the natural resources and help with trail longevity in that location.
After the trail work concludes enjoy a short hike to one of the many waterfalls at Gorges State Park! Don’t miss out on this great way to give back to your natural resources and build community with fellow Catamounts.
