Our Staff Assembly Delegates just returned from our fall meeting that was hosted at UNC-Pembroke. UNC-Pembroke, showed us what it means to be a Brave with their pride and hospitality. It became very clear to us, that WCU and UNCP have quite a few similarities while visiting their campus. Not only are we two of the institutions that are NC Promise schools, but we are both regional comprehensive universities as well as we have Native Tribal ties.
At this meeting, we heard from UNCP’s leadership, SGA president as well as an Executive member from ASG for the state. There were also presentations from the system office on Open Enrollment that were very helpful in clarifying the changes starting next year. We held our Assembly elections and although we were not successful in getting anyone from WCU elected, collectively we are happy to see more representation of different UNC System schools. Previously our Executive Committee was dominated with 3-4 schools and now we’ll have a balance of a good portion of all schools represented on Executive Committee. Our current chair is Alan Porch from NC State.
The next meeting will occur in the spring semester; the host institution and dates have not been announced.
