Staff Senate will be doing a “Meet the Senator” series this academic year, letting all staff know who their Staff Senators are. In the spotlight this week is Carol Hicks. Carol is the Business Officer in Hunter Library. She is the Secretary on Staff Senate this year and this is her first full year on Senate, though she was able to complete another Senators term for part of last year. When Carol was asked “Why Western?” she stated “Growing up in a small town in Oklahoma, I appreciate the ‘small town feel’ of WCU. Both of my kids will graduate this December from WCU, and my daughter met her husband at WCU. I like getting to know the students through our college ministry at church and being their ‘campus Mom’ when they are far from home. Carol’s favorite part of her job is getting to interact with colleges all over campus, and learn more about them and their area of the university. She loves photography and baking. She is also very active in her church family. Another fun fact about Carol is that she quit her full-time job as a commodities trader when her daughter was born and was a stay-at-home homeschooling Mom for 18 years before coming to Western. We love having Carol on Staff Senate. She brings so much to Staff Senate and the University, and WCU is so lucky to have her on board!
